Greenbush (A) 26th April 2009
A visit to Hertford, frought with danger and traumatic memories.
All worked well with the convoy and 11 Javs players arrived, ready for action.
Murphy chose caution and chose to bowl. The home side never really got going, wickets falling regularly, but it was until Robin Yolland was brought on at the Football Ground End that a crisis turned in to a full-blown catastrophe for The Bush.
Almost before The Bush new it, the Javs premier bowler had routed them. He ripped the stumps out as he took his 5th and final wicket, snapping them over his muscular thighs in a rare show of emotion.
So, a miserly 117 to chase; what could go wrong?
A dreadful display of batting saw the Javs collapse with minimum skill and maximum drama. Leybourne and Sonnex added some grizzled stability, but it fell to the last wicket pair of Robin Yolland and Birchley to score the remaining 5 runs to win. They duly picked up 4 singles before Birchley was bowled off an inside edge.
A tie.
