Charlie Chester's Balmy Army

Charlie Chester's Balmy Army

Our intrepid or is it just tepid vice to vice Charlie 'Chester Chesterfield' Yolland lead the JAVS to a comfortable victory against Chartridge on a balmy sunny August Sunday afternoon. With a first ball to last ball, I will carry my bat effort from our very own Chairman Tim or is it Tom Sonnex who managed to produce a forceful innings of 73 not out. Ably supported with another 50 from Mr Raj Kumar and a 38 from the returning Tim Bingle who also took three wickets. This seven wicket victory puts Charlie firmly into the frame for captain of the season award if there is such a thing. Well done team!

A highly impressive win but the poxy paper did not puplish our write up with football looming. A rather lacklustre bowling performance except for Tim Bingle whose niggardly accuracy got him 3 wickets. There were again lots of unessessary extra's but given having no experienced gloveman did not help. Impressive and committed fielding from Andy Twells was really thew highlight for me. Our regular opening batsman,Alex Sawyer phoned in sick from Wimbledon with a stomach complaint. So bad was it he was confident he was going to fill his car with serious flowing shit. This and the absence of Sgt Murphy and Chris Morton weakened our potential run chase. Charlie's batting order was quite clever. Although Steve Leyboure fell early. Tim Sonnex was joined by Tim Bingle. They laid a solid base taking the score to nearly 100 before man of the match Tim Bingle was out for 38. Raj coming in at 4 was going to be crucial and he did not dissappoint with 63 off 30 odd balls.Tim Sonnex was a totally different player. Confident in defence and attack he took the responsibility for this win with his finest knock of this season so far with 74 not out. Chalie's captaincy will nudge the selectors during the winter months and if nothing else is an adept deputy. Biff
