From the jaws of victory the JAVS managed to secure a fortuitous tie against Greenbush in Harpenden on Sunday 26 April 2009.
Robin the king of something was involved in a five wicket haul whist the Chairman and the Skipper were involved in a pistols at dawn type feud. We all thought that the cricket match was going to turn into a game of ice hockey or a Greco-Roman wrestling contest. Thankfully this motivational rally of unity galvanised the troops to a high level fielding performance. It was as though their seminal display of leadership was straight out of the pages of Sun Tzu’s ‘Art of War’. Regardless our batting display crumbled with our one eyed ex director of communications managing to turn a cruising win position into a Custer’s last stand type crescendo involving man of the moment Robin and Ian ‘Magoo’ Birchley putting in a cartoon like performance of comedy batting to bring the game to an exciting tie. Bring on County Hall.
